If I were planning to use felt, I would use it as the wall, and I would anchor the bottom of the wall about a foot forward of the top. That would create enough slope to ensure that none of the flannel pieces slide down.
Wash in a washing machine and throw in the dryer. Remove from dryer just before being completely dry and place on a hanger. Let it air dry. Depends on if you want to keep some part of them as a reminder/keepsake/whatever, of if you just want them gone.
