I know that there is a different possible question here, namely, why do schools which have a uniform not enforce their being worn This may be asked about any school policy. Perhaps the violator has powerful financial or political power over the school rare. In most cases, the faculty has been overwhelmed or burned out about this or any other issue, and have quit fighting a losing battle. No because they can’t express themselves through their clothes and hair. Believe it or not, some school children don’t have social lives outside of school and home during which to express themselves. I didn’t, because I studied hard, played sports, played an instrument, had jobs, and got straight-A’s. School IS social life, to some. I’m so grateful I went to public school, where kids got to dress as preppy or as punk as they wanted. I wanted to be more on the punk side of fashion, so I cut and dyed my own hair and wore band shirts and crazy shoes, but I certainly didn’t distract anyone in the negative sense due to my clotheshair; in fact, they wanted to cheat off ME. I would never send my own kid to a school that enforces a school uniform, because then he would be forced to conform to everyone else for the majority of his social life he is a straight-A student, too, who likes his hair long and how then would he discover his own personal style How would he know that it’s OK to be different That it’s OK to just be himself
Schools set their own rules for uniforms, however many schools which a couple of decades ago abolished uniforms have brought them back. If a pupil is playing truant, as they left home that morning dressed for school, chances are it’s much easier to identify the school they’re playing hookey from. Most schools pick relatively inexpensive uniforms and have a brisk second hand trade in uniforms where pupils have outgrown them before they wear out. Uniforms stop pupils from poorer families from being bullied for not having designer clothes, certain labels or expensive trainers. Bullying pupils who could not afford expensive clothes was a real problem when schools abolished their uniforms. In US schools it’s easy to spot in an instant who the pupils are from the poorest homes and many of them suffer social ostracisation. The parents have voted directly or through their representatives that they do not want uniforms. The schools do not care much either way. No uniforms means having to devise and enforce a dress code. Having Uniforms means having to deal with the sale of such and then enforcing their use.
On the other hand, being free to wear what you wish, is freeing. You get to choose how others see you and have the chance to improve your appearance or enhance it. This also makes people easier to tell apart and creates a more interesting environment. When people are free to chose what they wear, the entire school is more lively and diverse. I cannot believe we outsourced our moral teaching to school. Shouldn’t parents be educating their kids on the kind of morals and ethic they should have The educational institutions have the full rights to decide about the uniforms which the students of the school or colleges will be wearing in the classrooms. For boys that would mean dark trousers, white shirt, plain dark tie and jumper, dark jacketblazer, black shoes not trainers sneekers
