Hey. You suit is blue colour and shirt is purple. You can choose to go with a blue tie matching to the suit and a purple pocket square. And let the gold jacket or waistcoat remain as it is. Better to have tie with minor patterns (smaller than the one in the picture) than a plain tie. Or you could incorporate the colour of your gold waistcoat by going with a matching gold (if possible) or yellow tie and a matching pocket square. I think this combination would be a little more better since im assuming your suit and shirt are both dark colours (unless they are light) and there will seem to be a continuity between the tie and waistcoat which are in close contact.
Regardless of the colour, I’d suggest a shirt with a little texture. You don’t need to be massively formal so something with a little weave to it would be good. Same for the tie. My preference would be a slubby silk or woven silk grenadine, but ties are a very personal. Go for what you like. Number one choice would be pale blue shirt especially in daytime work environments. Choose ties with blue, green, brown, burgundy, rust, burnt orange. Choose a white shirt if it is quite a formal fork environment or if you are wearing it in the evening. White is neutral so you have a wide range of almost any colour but I’d still favour the colours mentioned above.
If either your suit or shirt is a lighter colour then the gold waistcoat will be a bad idea. It won’t fit in. Rather go with some colour that is in contrast with the suit as well as the shirt. And the tie will have to be the same colour as the waistcoat and the pocket square be the same colour as the shirt. The blue hue will always match a brown palette. As long as the navy blue is a dark tint so it would contrast well with a bright tint from the brown palette such as beige or coffee colour. Honestly I think you should try a white shirt instead with a burgundy tie if it’s possible. I think you have too much blue going on there. If you can’t get a white shirt then maybe a light or medium silvery grey, or possibly gold if you’re more warm toned. It’s hard without seeing pictures, to match the tones right so they’re as flattering as possible. I’d pick something with some pop….a plaid in rose pink/red or a check with shades of yellow/gold. You can find a pattern that has hints of the suit and shirt color to bring it together. Check out the way Spencer Strasmore has been dressing lately (in suits) in the HBO show “Ballers”. He’s got a great Miami vibe that is very up-to-date and fresh…and he’s not afraid to wear colors that could be described as feminine. Good luck!
