Web offset presses are used for most of the same applications as sheet fed presses. The paper for web presses comes in large rolls and they are used for long runs. This is the traditional press used in newspaper printing but large forms printers use these to run continuous carbonless forms (primarily for use in Dot matrix impact printers). Flexographic printing uses a rubber mat as a “plate” and is used in such applications as plastic bags and other flexible packaging. Label Printers can be offset, digital or flexographic. Each type of press is used for different purposes. Most long run labels are run offset. Digital printing is useful when there is information that changes either in batches or if the label requires numbering or for short runs. Overall the advent of the internet has hit the printing industry pretty hard. The mom and pop shops have all but disappeared. Social media and online printing companies has reduced the need for a lot of the traditional printing small shops used to provide.
Personally, I use a computer, a printer, and iron-on transfer paper. They make two different versions of this paper, one for ink jet printers, and one for laser printers, so be sure you get the right kind. Print your image on the paper so that it looks backwards, then follow the instructions on the package of paper to transfer the image to your shirt.
